Asthma Counselling

Today is my 3rd day of work in PPUM. Nothing special...woke up at 6am, got ready and went to work at 8am. I start work at 8.30am everyday. As usual, my job scope for this whole week is just packing, packing and packing....cos i'm still new at this workplace. I heard that for new PRP, we have to do packing for at least 2 weeks...hmmm

Packing means getting the Rx from the tray and pack the drugs. It sounds easy, but it doesnt...while packing, i need to know what is this drug for, what's the strength available in OPD, what's the colour of the tablets, what's the usual dosage the Dr usually give, etc....complicated huh? Well, i'm sure i'll get used to it as time goes by.

At 9am, one of the PRP, Hui (from USM), brought me for asthma counselling. I thought i just have to follow her and see what she's doing, but no...i have to counsel the patient myself as well. It seems that we have to counsel asthmatic patients and access their inhaler's technique. Blur blur blur...i really doesnt know what to do.... after few months of break after graduated, my knowledge of inhaler technique disappears...haha....but i still remember salbutamol is for prn basis and others are for everyday use.

After Hui's first demonstration, she asked me to start counselling a patient myself and she'll be by my side to help me. She's really nice and friendly. Was quite kan cheong at first, but in the end, everything just went smoothly.

It was fun, talking to small kids, as this asthma clinic is in a paedatric ward, so all the patients are children. It was really a great experience. Something new that i've learned today!
And i'll be doing every wednesday...yeah!
=)
